Selena
She broke down barriers within the music industry by being a singer, performer as well as a designer. The dual nature of her role as the Mexican American performer was traditional and contemporary. Her work brought Tejano to mainstream fame in an innovative way. Like many times with a bright and amiable star is lost in a hurry the tragic loss of her life shattered her rising profile. Many mourned all of her potential, which was untapped. People have worked hard throughout the years to maintain her legacy. Selena's tragic loss to gun violence resulted in a reaction within the Latino community that was similar as the reaction to deaths of Elvis Presley or John Lennon. An enormously popular singer across Latino communities throughout North America her music crossed borders of culture to impact those of youth and old alike. Selena, a gorgeous and vibrant stage performer that has been referred to as Latina Madonna, was also an actress offstage. Selena was also active in antidrug campaigns.
